Options for Replacing Teeth

Options for Replacing Teeth

January 28, 2021

When teeth become damaged due to a fall, trauma, or tooth decay, our dentists in Chantilly, VA have several options for replacing them. We don’t recommend that you leave a gap if teeth need removing. Instead, use one of these options to replace them and keep them healthy.

Why Teeth Need Replacing

When a tooth is missing, it needs replacing as soon as possible because those remaining will naturally drift toward the vacancy. Teeth can then become misaligned and begin to loosen. Over time, teeth can eventually fall out if the empty spot remains.

Tartar can also build-up in places where it’s difficult to clean so that dental decay can develop. You can also lose some teeth to decay if our dentists near you cannot remove tartar and plaque from their surfaces. Unfortunately, removing decayed teeth is one way to stop the spread of the disease.

Replacement Options

After accessing the gaps in your teeth, our dentists will discuss replacement options with you.

Dental Implants

Many people choose dental implants to replace teeth because they look the most like natural ones. However, the replacement process doesn’t happen overnight, and it will take months before the gum heals completely. One of our dentists in Chantilly, VA will assess your teeth and measure your jaw.

The jawbone needs to be long enough and thick enough for the implants to be successful. If they don’t pass the assessment, you may still be able to get implants after a bone graft or by using smaller implants.

Fixed Bridges

You may opt for an implant-supported bridge, which is a non-removable bridge attached to implants. Depending on how many replacements are needed, a traditional fixed bridge may suffice. The conventional bridge consists of pontics or fake teeth between dental crowns that support the bridge on each end of it.

Partials and Full Dentures

If you want your replacement teeth in Chantilly, VA quickly, then you might want to consider partials or full dentures. They can be fixed or removable, and they are available in about two to four weeks. If you don’t want to replace a mouthful of teeth, then partials can replace one or an entire archway of teeth.

There are other options for replacing teeth that you can discuss with our dentists at Chantilly Dental Arts Center. Replacing your teeth immediately after losing them allows you to have a great smile again and to keep them healthy.
